Aluminium compounds
The active ingredient in most antiperspirants. Aluminium zirconium tetrachlorohydrex and aluminium chlorohydrate are the most common forms. Parabens

Synthetic fragrance

How to read a deodorant label
Ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration — the first five or six make up the bulk of the product. If the first ingredient is water followed by a string of unrecognisable chemical names, that tells you something. If it starts with shea butter and MCT oil, that tells you something very different.
Watch out for "natural" on the front of the packaging. It's not a regulated term in the UK. Any brand can print it regardless of what's actually inside. The only reliable way to know what you're applying is to read the INCI list on the back — the full ingredient list using standardised scientific names.
INCI names can look intimidating. Butyrospermum Parkii Butter is shea butter. Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Extract is bamboo. Once you recognise a few, reading ingredient lists becomes second nature — and you'll spot the difference between a genuinely clean formula and one that's just marketed that way.
Quick check: open your current deodorant and look for these three things. Does it list "fragrance" or "parfum" without naming specific oils? Does it contain aluminium? Are parabens in the first half of the list? If yes to any of these, you now know exactly what you're dealing with.
